Nagrakata: A viral video showing a doctor dangling from a rope and slowly crossing a gorge to reach stranded flood victims in West Bengal has captured nationwide attention and has sparked an outpouring of admiration on social media.
In the video, Dr. Irfan Molla, Block Medical Officer of Health (BMOH) of Nagrakata, is seen using a zipline, supported by safety gear and rescue personnel, to reach Bamandanga—a remote village cut off by landslides and floods.

Another widely spread caption stated that a doctor who risked his life by crossing dangerous terrain, hanging from a rope to reach and treat flood-affected people, truly deserved a salute. The act was regarded as a supreme example of humanity.
The dramatic scene unfolds amid a devastating humanitarian crisis in northern West Bengal, where heavy rainfall over the past week has triggered massive floods and landslides. At least 28 people have been confirmed dead in the region, with rescue efforts still ongoing.
The worst-hit areas include Darjeeling, Mirik, Sukhiapokhri, and Jorebunglow. Many remote villages have been cut off entirely due to collapsed roads and landslides. In neighbouring Nepal, the situation is even more grim, with over 50 reported deaths and extensive damage, especially in the Ilam district.

Rescue operations are in full swing. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Alipurduar and other districts. Helicopters and earth-moving equipment are being used to reach remote regions and clear debris where people are feared to be trapped.
