Hyderabad: The Telangana government has appointed Dr. K. Ramesh Reddy as the in-charge Vice-Chancellor of
Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) with immediate effect. He is currently serving as
the principal of the Government Medical College (GMC) in Yadadri Bhongir.
The official notification
for the appointment was released on Thursday, December 4, 2025, by Health
Department Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu. Dr. Reddy previously served as the Director of Medical Education for six consecutive years, from 2017 to 2023.
“In exercise of the
powers conferred under Provision of the Section 12 of the Kaloji Narayana Rao
University of Health Sciences Act, 1986 (Act No.6 of 1986), Government hereby
appoint Dr. K. Ramesh Reddy, Principal, Government Medical College, Yadadri
Bhuvanagiri as in-charge Vice Chancellor to Kaloji Narayana Rao University of
Health Sciences, Warangal, with immediate effect, until further orders,” the
order stated.
Dr. Reddy is also the
former Principal of Gandhi Medical College. He also served as the Commissioner
of the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad. He is a former member of the Medical
Council of India. He was a Professor and HOD, Pediatric Surgery, Niloufer
Hospital, Hyderabad. He is also a former Vice Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh
Medical Council. He also served as the Secretary General of the Andhra Pradesh
Government Doctors’ Association (APGDA). It is a professional body representing
the interests and concerns of doctors employed by the government of the Indian
state of Andhra Pradesh.
In 2022, Dr Ramesh Reddy was employed on an ad-hoc basis, as the charge of Director of Medical Education.
However, Dr. Narender Kumar, who ranked higher than Dr. Reddy in the seniority list for the post of Additional Director, approached the High Court and challenged Dr. Reddy’s prolonged tenure in the office. Back in 2017, Dr. Ramesh
Reddy had been employed on an ad hoc basis, as there was no seniority list of
professors. However, the court
interfered, and a final seniority list was
prepared back in 2021. On the basis of the list, the promotions had been issued
for the post of Additional Directors.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported that, nearly five days after reports emerged that the Vice-Chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) resigned amid allegations of gross discrepancies and irregularities in the evaluation process of the postgraduate (MD/MS) theory exams, the Telangana government is now planning to appoint an IAS officer as the new Vice Chancellor.
