Jammu: An 11-year-old girl tragically passed away on Wednesday after undergoing a laparoscopic surgery to remove a liver cyst at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. She reportedly died while being transferred to Srinagar’s Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for advanced treatment.
The incident has sparked outrage in the region, with Doda MLA Mehraj Malik publicly alleging medical negligence and calling the girl’s death a “deliberate killing.”
The Principal, in a statement, explained that the patient suddenly developed acute renal shutdown during the postoperative period. In response, the treating physicians, anaesthetists, and surgical team consulted with experts from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and General Surgery departments at SKIMS, Srinagar. Based on their collective opinion, they decided to transfer the patient to SKIMS for advanced management under intensive care and nephrology supervision.
He added that the girl died during the transfer to SKIMS in an Advanced Life Support ambulance. According to him, the patient suffered a sudden cardiac arrest en route, and efforts to revive her were unsuccessful. The Principal also assured full cooperation with any investigation into the incident.
