Mandya: In a tragic incident, a first-year MBBS student of the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his hostel room.
The cause of his death remains unknown and is currently under investigation by the police. No suicide note was found at the scene. It has been reported that the student had missed his first-year exams last year but was planning to appear for them this year.
According to the police, the student shared his room with two others, both of whom were away visiting their hometowns on Sunday. That night, the student was talking with his friends in the next room till midnight on Sunday, after which he returned to his room.

As per TOI media report, the incident occurred on Sunday. The student was staying in the hostel with two other students. Both of whom weren’t in the room on Sunday, as they went to their natives. The incident came to light when one of the roommates arrived on Monday morning, college sources informed TOI
A case has been registered in this regard, and an investigation is underway.
MIMS Director Dr Narasimhaswamy told Deccan Herald, “*** was a football player. As he did not attend the classes regularly last year, he could not appear for the first-year exams. He wanted to appear for the exam this year. Hence, he was staying at the hostel temporarily to pay the exam fee.”
Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baladandi said, “The student was from Yelburga in Koppal district. No death note was found at the incident site.”
Medical Dialogues recently reported that a junior resident doctor and a first-year postgraduate student in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room. Doctors at the institute reported that the medico injected a high dose of anaesthetic drug.
