Jabalpur: Jabalpur police have arrested a man accused of impersonating a doctor and running a fake medical clinic, which he allegedly used to distribute religious literature aimed at converting patients.
According to the news reports, the accused was apprehended during a raid conducted by the Health Department in the Ranjhi police station area, following several complaints from residents. Officials discovered that the fake doctor was prescribing allopathic medicines and offering treatment despite lacking any formal medical degree or registration.
Leaders from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal claimed that the accused had been distributing religious pamphlets containing content they described as offensive to Hindu deities. They accused him of using his medical practice as a front to influence and persuade patients to change their religion.
Additional Superintendent of Police Anand Kaladgi confirmed the arrest and said the clinic has been sealed. Authorities are examining the seized medicines and pamphlets. “We are investigating both the illegal medical practice and the conversion allegations,” he said, reports Free Press Journal.

Police are currently interrogating the accused to determine whether any patients were harmed by his treatments and whether his activities were part of a broader conversion effort. The Health Department is expected to file a separate case for unauthorised medical practice.
Authorities have urged residents to be cautious and seek healthcare only from certified medical professionals. This incident has reignited discussions around illegal medical practitioners.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the cath lab at Mission Hospital in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, where a fake doctor allegedly performed heart surgeries resulting in at least seven deaths, was sealed. “On the directions of the district administration, only the cath lab has been sealed, as all the operations and cases have happened here. There is evidence in this area, so we have sealed the lab. The angiography and angioplasty of several patients who died were performed in this cath lab only,” District Health Officer Vikrant Singh Chauhan told reporters at the hospital.
