
Jalandhar: A city-based Nephrologist was allegedly shot in the right leg on Tuesday evening when unidentified assailants opened fire outside a market in Jalandhar’s Urban Estate area. The doctor, who runs a private hospital, was targeted just as he was about to enter his car.
According to the news reports, the doctor had visited a supermarket for some routine shopping and was heading back to his vehicle when he was attacked. As he walked towards his car, two unidentified assailants, whose motives remain unclear, approached him.

Senior police officials, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Manpreet Singh Dhillon, rushed to the scene shortly after the incident.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Deputy Commissioner of police (investigation) Manpreet Singh Dhillon said, “The whole incident was recorded in the CCTV cameras installed in the market. We have gathered important leads in the case from the CCTV footage gathered from the spot. The statement of Dr Sood is being recorded.”
The doctor informed the police during the preliminary investigation that he had never received any threat or extortion call prior to this incident.
Following the incident, he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where his condition was reported to be stable.
“The condition of the victim is stable. We have constituted multiple teams for detailed investigation, and the case will be cracked soon,” Dhillon said, reports Hindustan Times.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in another case of violence against medical professionals, a doctor at Patel Hospital was allegedly attacked by a group of miscreants in the hospital’s parking area shortly after attending to a patient. Following the incident, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police took swift action and arrested three individuals.
