32 percent PG medical fee slash at VIMS Palghar

Mumbai: In a major relief for the postgraduate medical aspirants seeking admissions in Maharashtra, the Fee Regulating Authority (FRA) in the State has reduced the MD MS fees at Vedantaa Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Palghar, by 32%.

The decision in this regard was taken by the FRA in its meetings held recently this week. FRA has fixed the MBBS fees for 11 out of 24 private medical colleges in Maharashtra and PG (MD/MS) medical fees for five of these colleges.

At VIMS Palghar, last year, the postgraduate medical fee was 19.32 lakh. However, in its recent meeting, the FRA decided to reduce it by around 32 percent. Therefore, the fees for the MD-MS course at VIMS Palghar are now Rs 13.11 lakh.

The FRA has also reduced the MBBS fees at this institute. While previously, the fee for the MBBS course at this institute was Rs 17.03 lakh, the FRA has now slashed it to Rs 15.57 lakh.

VIMS Palghar is the only medical college in Maharashtra to be set up by a private limited company. While its MBBS course is still the most expensive one in the State, after the reduction in the fees, the MD MS course at VIMS Palghar is no longer the costliest in the State.

Apart from VIMS Palghar, FRA has fixed the MD MS fees at four other institutes, including SMBT Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Nashik, Ashwini Rural Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Solapur, Padmashri Dr Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Medical College, Ahmednagar, and BKL Walawalkar Rural Medical College, Chiplun (Ratnagiri).

Among these, there has been no change in the fee structure at Padmashri Dr Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Medical College, Ahmednagar. However, the fee panel has increased the fees at the other three institutes.
